We’re a month into 2015 and things are going great.

First, to everyone using the hostgator discount code to build a wordpress website – thank you! If you have any questions – ask. I’ve been using hostgator and wordpress for about 3 or 4 years now and although I’m not super tech savvy, I know my way around things. Oh and I know that youtube video is wack. Before I thought it was good…but now that I’ve become a fan of youtube and studied youtube videos I know I did a terrible job but hey…it is value add! I’ll make a new one soon, promise.

Okay so a few quick updates. I went back to the basics. After studying computer science as an undergrad, I picked back up programming when I started making my first passive income website (html and css). After hiring a few freelancers and paying thousands of dollars to build sites and prototype sites for a tech start-up, I realized I was at the mercy of coders that knew how to code. So what did I do?

As you may know, I signed up for a course at NYU to learn objective-c. Then I started taking iTunes U courses through Stanford to learn basic languages again like C++ and JAVA and then objective-c (again!). But after all that, I still felt like I was missing something. I decided it was time to go back to the way I know I can learn – that’s just picking up a book and going through it. And it’s working. I’ll be launching iPhone apps in no time! (jk)

But really, it all comes down to knowing it’s going to be hard before it’s easy. So even though learning can be frustrating, especially when you’re an adult and you can just fall back on what you know (the comfortable life), if you remember the process of learning – you realize you learn by failing and eventually it just becomes easy. So I’m reframing everything.

I’m also getting back into finance. After a whirlwind of things over the past few years I think its time to get back to my roots of what I know. I just finished reading Margin of Safety by Seth Klarman (the book that cost over $1,000 on amazon). And I’ll start doing some more research if I can. I’m going to sign back up for the CFA tomorrow actually. I figure if I spend 1 hour a night studying and maybe 2 on the weekends it should be a breeze by June.

And lastly – 2015 is a year of taking chances and learning from failures. The one thing I wrote down on my white board this year was #failmore. That was my resolution. I don’t think I play life super safe. I’ve done quit of foolish things in my life that many would question why…but I think I have a lot more of things I can do and I plan to do them this year. With that said, I am in the process of researching and buying a new DSLR camera to launch several youtube channels to drive traffic to a few of my sites (including NYCTECHCLUB). I’m excited to hear all the hate comments and the potential lovely comments. If this project fails and I end up looking like a fool, let’s hope you’ll still be my friend.

Oh and add me on snapchat if you haven’t. My username is jawiku. I am beginning to believe Snapchat is going to be the next big platform for individuals to become “sensations” or “celebrities” and it will be a great advertising and promotional platform so it would be great to get some more followers. I have some fun ideas 🙂

That’s all for now. The one man tech club is still going strong. Will you join me?
